Selected Answer: D
Hashing a document does not change the content or protect confidentiality; instead, it generates a fixed-length digest that acts like a digital fingerprint.

If even a single character in the document changes, the hash value will change drastically, alerting you to tampering or corruption.

❌ Why not the others?

A. Compress the size of the file → That’s the role of compression (e.g., ZIP), not hashing.

B. Prevent unauthorized disclosure → That’s encryption’s purpose, not hashing.

C. Classify the file for internal use → That’s a governance/labeling control, unrelated to hashing.

👉 Hashing = Integrity check, not confidentiality or compression.
